How long does a CAAM Authorisation to Fly take?

Plan for at least 14 working days from a complete submission. Flights near controlled airspace, aerodromes or sensitive installations can take longer because PDRM or CGSO clearance runs in parallel.

What is a JUPEM APK permit and when do I need one?

An APK is the spatial data capture permit from the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia. It applies when the mission produces survey-grade geospatial products such as orthomosaics, DSM/DTM or LiDAR point clouds intended for measurement or engineering use.

Do recreational rules apply to commercial drone work?

No. Commercial aerial work requires an operator holding a CAAM RCoC-B, valid aviation insurance and flight-specific authorisation. Recreational allowances for sub-20kg aircraft do not cover paid missions.

Who is legally responsible for the permits?

The awarded operator, as the remote pilot in command, holds regulatory responsibility for obtaining and carrying valid approvals. DronePilot's permit assessment is planning guidance only and does not replace an approval from CAAM, JUPEM, PDRM or CGSO.
